What are triglycerides?

Triglycerides are a type of fat present in your blood. Your body uses these fats for energy. Consuming high-calorie foods increases the levels of triglycerides in your blood. Over time, triglycerides harden the walls of the arteries and increase the chances of heart attack, heart disease and stroke. Very high triglyceride levels can also cause inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).
